A Betrayal

Face and form, they go first
aging much quicker than a mind,
Waist, thighs, arms
take on an air of indifference.
Unfulfilled desire has wearied them,
and they choose to forget
whatever they once promised.

But mind and heart continue the dialogue,
each welcoming conversation;
they argue, they share epiphanies,
sometimes all night they raise
antiphonal laments.

Face and body have betrayed them;
they are alone together,
unsure how to proceed.

Always

The promise of always
lies arrogant before the heavens;
the magnitude of the cosmos,
the multitude of stars rising, falling -
a constancy, as if I'd never existed.
And every desire save this one,
every relationship, save this one,
leads hearts to grow accustomed
to the furthest of places,
save this one - always.
